Massage

Massage is one of the most ancient forms of healing therapy known to man which has been practiced for many centuries.  It relates to the manipulation of the body’s soft tissue to encourage healing and improve circulation.  As far back as 3000 BC the Chinese texts record massage being used to promote health, and to treat illness and injury.  Nerve endings in the skin can trigger the release of endorphins which are the body’s natural pain-killers.  These endorphins can induce well-being and bring about a state of relaxation.  Massage is versatile and can be tailored to suit an individual’s specific requirements either by guided pressure or techniques.  The use of essential and carrier oils can be incorporated to enhance the treatment experience.

How does Massage work?

The various types of massage techniques depict the type of treatment and this dictates the required benefit.  Massage can have a range of uses but the principle is much the same, which is, – by working out a muscle it helps reduce the build up of tension.  Massage releases this tension resulting in a greater flow of blood and lymph which presents for a greater range of movement for the client.

What does a treatment involve?

A massage involves the therapist applying a medium, e.g. oil or cream to the skin and manipulating the muscles with a variety of techniques and movements to bring about relief from tension and or injury.  Popular treatments include Full Body and Back/Neck/Head/Shoulder Massage.  Whatever part of the body is being treated is the only part exposed as heated towels are used to provide modesty and comfort during the treatment.
